„I want a regular check-up and clean“

Regular check-up and teeth cleaning

Many dental problems don't hurt until they become big. Decay between teeth, early gum inflammation or a leaking filling usually only show up at an examination or on an X-ray. That is why a check-up every six months makes sense even when you feel fine. It is also a good idea to have your tartar removed at the same time, because a toothbrush can't remove it. If it has been a long time since you last saw a dentist, that's fine – we start with an examination, with no judgement.

Why it usually happens

  • Tartar builds up even in people who brush regularly
  • Decay between teeth can't be seen in the mirror
  • Old fillings start to leak at the edges over time
  • Gum inflammation usually doesn't hurt at first

What we can do

  • Check-up

The dentist examines all your teeth, gums, fillings and crowns, as well as your tongue, palate and the inside of your cheeks. We only take X-rays when there is a reason to.

  • Scale and polish

We remove tartar with an ultrasonic scaler and then polish your teeth so that new deposits find it harder to stick. With sensitive teeth we work more slowly and, if needed, use a local anaesthetic.

  • Air polishing

When there are stains from coffee, tea or tobacco, we add air polishing to the clean – a jet of fine powder that removes coloured deposits.

    Tips and next appointment

We show you the spots you tend to miss when brushing. A reminder for your next check-up arrives after six months, by email and SMS.

How long it takes

A check-up takes 30 minutes and a clean 45 minutes, and both can be booked back to back in the same visit.

After treatment

After tartar removal your teeth may be sensitive to cold for a day or two, and your gums may bleed a little, especially if there was a lot of tartar. This usually passes quickly. Keep brushing those spots, even if they bleed, because that is how gums settle fastest. If the bleeding lasts longer than a week, get in touch.

What it costs

A check-up costs RSD 3,000, and a scale and polish RSD 5,500. Air polishing is an extra RSD 3,000 if there are stains. If we find something at the check-up that needs treatment, you first get a price range, and we do nothing without your consent.

Common questions

This is my first visit to you. Should I book a check-up or a first examination?

If you haven't been to us before, book a first examination, because it includes intraoral camera images and a plan. You can book a tartar clean straight after it.

How often should tartar be removed?

Once or twice a year suits most people. If tartar builds up quickly or you are having gum treatment, we will recommend more frequent visits.

Does tartar removal damage enamel?

No, not when it is done properly. The ultrasonic tip removes tartar, not enamel; the feeling that your teeth are “thinner” comes from the tartar having filled the spaces between them.

This text is a general explanation and not a substitute for a check-up. Your dentist will tell you what is best for you after examining you.
