Jelena Tomić is a dental hygienist. She removes tartar and stains, polishes teeth and helps patients having gum treatment hold on to the progress they have made. Before cleaning she asks whether any teeth are sensitive and works more gently in those spots, and if needed, a dentist gives a local anaesthetic. At the end she shows you, on your own teeth, which spots the toothbrush most often misses.
She doesn't lecture or criticise. If it has been a long time since your last clean, she starts from where things are now, not from what should have been done. She shows children and teenagers with fixed braces how to brush around the brackets. She speaks Serbian and English.
